The Home of Our “I Do”
The Home of Our “I Do”
On 18 December 2026, our wedding will be celebrated at the Basilica of Saint Quiteria of Meca, one of the most important religious sanctuaries in Portugal’s Western Region and a place deeply connected to the history, faith, and identity of Alenquer.
Devotion to Saint Quiteria in this location dates back several centuries, making Meca a place of pilgrimage for generations of believers who have come here to pray, give thanks for blessings received, and entrust the most important moments of their lives to God. Over time, the church grew in both significance and beauty, becoming one of the region’s principal centres of devotion.
For us, this place also holds a very personal meaning. As both of us are from Alenquer, we wanted to celebrate our marriage in a church that belongs to the land where we grew up. In addition, Saint Quiteria Parish is geographically the closest parish to the home where Sara spent her childhood, making this choice even more special.
More than the grandeur of the Basilica or the richness of its history, we feel there is something profoundly beautiful about beginning our married life in a place that has welcomed the prayers, promises, joys and hopes of so many people over the years.
It is in this house, dedicated to Saint Quiteria and built for the glory of God, that we will have the joy of saying our “I do”, surrounded by the people we love the most and entrusting our future to the One whom we wish to keep forever at the centre of our threefold cord.
